This is amazing, I am looking forward to going through these pieces. I've just been reading Philip Ball's "Universe of Stone" on the building of Chartres and the gothic cathedrals. Pérotin is the perfect accompaniment. The right place, the right time, the right vibe.
this post is not meant as a definitive anthology of French music, just my personal reflections. i wrote about composers that immediately came to mind. Poulenc, Frank and Saint-Saëns were left out because their works weren't on my mind at the time of writing
